But
thank God! He has made us his captives and continues to lead us along in
Christ's triumphal procession. Now he uses us to spread the knowledge of Christ
everywhere, like a sweet perfume. 2 Corinthians 2:14 NLT
Today I’d like to introduce to you my special guest, Cynthia Simmons. Cynthia and her husband, Ray, have five children and reside in
Atlanta. She taught for over twenty-five years as a homeschool mother and Bible
teacher. Her writing has appeared in CAG publications, NATHHAN NEWS,
Chattanooga Regional Historical Magazine, Georgia Right to Life Newsletter,
Chattanooga Times Free Press, Catholic Exchange, ECLA magazine, and Christian
Devotions.us. Active in Christian
Authors Guild (CAG), she conducts writing workshops and has served as president,
vice president, and conference director.
I met "Cyndi" through the Christian Authors Guild (CAG). Their annual fall conference, Catch the Wave , was the very first writers’
conference I attended. I’ve been blessed
to attend that conference twice.
That’s where I got to know this soft-spoken lady who is a real
powerhouse of information and encouragement for writers and Christian women.
Cyndi has a heart
for encouraging women in today’s crazy, upside-down world. She loves history
and peppers her speaking and teaching with fascinating vignettes from the past.
Her first book, Struggles and Triumphs, was nominated for 2008 Georgia Author
of the year. She hosts Heart
of the Matter Radio for women seeking the elegance of God’s
wisdom.
I encourage you to visit Cyndi’s
website: www.clsimmons.com. I have personally found CAG Spotlight to be very beneficial.
I have learned so much from the
resources provided.
Cyndi,
could you tell us a little about CAG Spotlight as well as “Heart of the Matter
Radio”?
While I promoted my first book, I did a lot of radio
interviews. It required some work, but I loved it. My publicist and I put
together a list of questions, and I prepared answers. I practiced my sound
bites so I’d be smooth. When other possible topics came to mind, I prepared a
short answer to them also.
At the time I served as president of my writing group, Christian Authors Guild (CAG). I realized I could use what I learned to promote
our events, like our annual fall conference.
The goal of CAG Spotlight is to interview authors and VIPs
in the writing industry to help new authors get published. By then I held
membership in American Christian Fiction Writers, so I sent out a query for
authors to interview. Tiffany Colter volunteered and my first podcast went live
in December 2010.
In the spring of 2013, a friend asked me to live stream a
writing contest. I knew that meant I would have to do radio. So, after praying
for a month or so, I made the transition from podcasting to radio, and Heart
of the Matter Radio was born.
Heart of the Matter Radio reaches out to women who long for
the elegance of God’s wisdom. We broadcast every Thursday at 9 p.m. Eastern on
my website. I continue to do CAG Spotlight for writers monthly on the second segment of the program.
