I am the vine; you are the branches…apart from me
you can do nothing. John 15:5
It’s a great word. I like it. I’ve come across
it a lot lately. It seems I see it, hear it, everywhere.
When used as an adjective, the word essential means: of the upmost importance, basic,
indispensable, necessary.
As a noun, it means, something that is basic or absolutely
necessary.
Essential
There’s Martha
Stewart Essentials and The Essential
Guide to Getting Published.
I searched Amazon.com and found over 33 thousand
books that claim to be the essential guide to something.
There are essential oils. Yes, I love my
lavender. And essential vitamins.
Why, that about says it all doesn’t it. The word
essential has grabbed my attention.
Jesus
is my essential.
He basically told us so Himself in His teaching
on the True Vine. To me the vine
symbolizes the spiritual
union of us believers to Himself, and our absolute dependence on Him for fruitfulness.
Remain
in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must
remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. “I am
the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear
much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. John 15:4-5 NIV
